Kennedy grad is news service intern

ANN ARBOR&#8212Daniel Krauth of Newport, Mich., has joined the University of Michigan’s Office of News and Information Services (NIS) as an intern.

Krauth is a senior in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts majoring in English and communications. While at U-M, he has written news stories for the campus newspaper, the Michigan Daily, that range from new contraception drugs to students earning thousands from online investing. He is also an investigative intern for FOX 2 News-Detroit and pursuing a career in broadcast journalism.

His responsibilities at NIS include writing articles for the faculty/staff publication, writing news releases and interacting with the news media at the state and national levels.

While attending John F. Kennedy High School (JFK) in Taylor, Mich., Krauth was the student reporter for the Downriver News-Herald. He wrote a column each month informing the community on events and issues that affect the lives of students. He also covered President Bill Clinton’s visit to Taylor.

In addition to writing for the News-Herald, Krauth was the news editor for his high school newspaper. He was a member of the superintendent’s school advisory committee for the city of Taylor, where he played an integral part of the planning and preparation for the closing of Taylor Center High School. Dan was also his school’s mega league leadership representative where he represented JFK in planning leadership events with the 13 other schools in his conference. He was also chosen as the Hugh O’Brien Youth Ambassador for JFK and was class president.

He is the son of Larry and Rita Krauth of Newport and is the grandson of Dolores Krauth and Rose Salwoski of Taylor.
