Joining in the discussion are former U-M President James Duderstadt; Murray Sperber, English professor from Indiana University, and David Diles, athletic director at Eastern Michigan University.
Sperber will detail how he perceives intercollegiate sports are eroding the goals and principles of colleges and turning campuses into one big party. He’ll include comments from his new book, “Beer and Circus.” Duderstadt, who wrote “Intercollegiate Athletics in America: A University President’s Perspective,” will talk about radical reforms which he feels will put the focus back on the classroom. As an athletic director, Diles will discuss his daily challenges between academia and sports.
