League presentation to focus on Vincent van Gogh
ANN ARBOR—The Friends of the Michigan League are presenting a special program on the works of Vincent van Gogh at 4 p.m. Jan. 28 in the League’s Vandenberg Room at the University of Michigan.
“The Art of Compassion: Seeing with Vincent van Gogh,” to be presented by Rev. Don Postema and his wife, Elaine, of Ann Arbor, will use quotations from Scriptures and from van Gogh’s “insightful and beautiful letters,” 80 slides of his paintings and drawings, plus liturgical music.
Rev. Postema presents van Gogh “as more than a crazy Dutchman who cut off his ear,” says League program associate Ginger Sissom. “He will show van Gogh’s interesting but tragic life as a theological student and evangelist as well as an artist.”
The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
Rev. Postema’s presentation will serve as a precursor to the Friends of the Michigan League’s March dinner-theater presentation that will focus on van Gogh’s life.
