ANN ARBOR—Leo Vroman, Dutch poet laureate, scientist and artist, will deliver the University of Michigan’s DeVries-VanderKooy Memorial Lecture at 8 p.m. Nov. 11 at Rackham Assembly Hall.

“Common Grounds: Science, Arts & Poetry” is a multi-media presentation that will draw from Vroman’s experience as a research scientist in zoology, physiology, and anatomy, as an illustrator and cartoonist, and as a writer of prose and poetry.

The 82-year-old Vroman fled the Netherlands during World War II and later became a prisoner of the Japanese while living in Indonesia. After the war, he settled in New York City, where he continued his work.

His talk is free to the public and is sponsored by the U-M Center for Dutch and Flemish Studies, the Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures and the Netherlands America University League of Ann Arbor.
