ANN ARBOR—Although the highly ranked football teams of the University of Michigan and the University of North Carolina are not scheduled to meet on the gridiron this season, the U-M will still host a contingent of Tar Heels on campus next month. The Public Private Partnership, a group of about 80 government, business, cultural and community leaders from the U-NC and the Chapel Hill, N.C., area, will visit the U-M campus Nov. 10-12. U-M officials and Ann Arbor government and business leaders will meet with the North Carolina group to discuss “sustainability” in campus/community planning and development, and “town/gown” cooperation in the utilization of performing arts venues.

“The purpose of their visit is to meet and share experiences and solutions with their counterparts here,” says Jim Kosteva, U-M director of community relations. “Proposed topics include expanding opportunities for the cultural arts; campus/community transportation and parking issues; land-use, the environment and area sustainability; and economic development.”

Kosteva says that the U-NC’s recent acquisition of a large tract of land similar to the U-M’s North Campus and U-NC’s planned construction of a new performing arts venue provided the impetus for the meeting. The event is sponsored by the U-M, city of Ann Arbor, Ann Arbor Chamber of Commerce and Ann Arbor Convention and Visitors Bureau.
