Martha Somerman named AAAS Fellow

ANN ARBOR—Martha Somerman, associate dean for research at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, has been elected as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Somerman, whose expertise is in the field of regeneration of mineralized tissues, is also the William K. and Mary Anne Najjar professor of dentistry. She is also a professor in the Department of Pharmacology at the Medical School, has an active faculty practice limited to periodontics, and is involved in several campus initiatives as well as national and international scientific and research activities.

The AAAS is the world’s largest general science organization and publisher of the peer-reviewed journal, Science.

The U-M School of Dentistry is one of the nation’s leading dental schools engaged in oral health care education, research, patient care, and community service. General dental care clinics and specialty clinics providing advanced treatment enable the School to offer dental services and programs to patients throughout Michigan.
