Michigan I-Corps showcase: Launching more tech startups in the state
EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT
DATE: 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., June 19, 2013
EVENT: Twenty tech startups from around the state of Michigan will share their business concepts and lessons learned during the first ever Michigan I-Corps program finale. Launched in May 2013, Michigan I-Corps is a seven-week entrepreneurial training workshop that aims to increase the number of tech startups launched within the state.
“The teams have made tremendous progress in understanding where their technology fits into the marketplace, who their customer is, and how much the customer values their technology. As a group, they’ve spoken to over 1,100 potential customers in just five weeks,” said Michigan I-Corps director Jonathan Fay, associate director of entrepreneurial practice at the U-M College of Engineering’s Center for Entrepreneurship.
Among the teams that will present their business concept and highlight their progress are:
- VitalFlow, from Ann Arbor, which is developing an electronic CPR device for emergency room doctors
- MSHOP, from the University of Michigan, which is developing a tool for predicting surgical outcomes using big data
- Biteamins, from Oakland University, which is developing a natural vitamin supplement that repels insects
- The Holy Braille, from U-M, which is developing microfluidic technology that enables the blind to use touchscreens by converting the surface into an active braille display
“If the teams use the tools and fail-fast mentality we’ve taught them, I believe many of them will go on to become successful entrepreneurs in the future,” said Fay.
