New York Times executive editor Jill Abramson will speak at U-M
EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT
DATE: 4:30-6 p.m., Tuesday, March 19, 2013
EVENT: Jill Abramson, the first female executive editor of the New York Times, will deliver the Center for the Education of Women 2013 Mullin Welch Lecture. The talk is free to the public.
Abramson succeeded Bill Keller in September 2011 after previously serving as the publication’s managing editor, a position she held since 2003. She joined the New York Times in 1997 after a stint at the Wall Street Journal, where she was a deputy bureau chief and an investigative reporter for nine years. She rose quickly at the Times, becoming Washington editor in 1999 and then bureau chief in 2000.
The annual Mullin Welch Lecture Series honors Elizabeth Charlotte Mullin Welch, a 1939 U-M graduate and successful businesswoman who was an early role model in the struggle to further women’s aspirations.
