No body slams here; just poetry
ANN ARBOR—Wild cards, those with automatic bids, past winners, and runners-up will be fighting for a place on the University of Michigan’s Poetry Slam team. And there’s only room for four.
The Grand Slam! will begin at 10 p.m. at U-M’s Museum of Art on March 22. The doors open at 9:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
The opening act for the Slam is Kip Fulbeck, film-maker, poet, and associate professor of art studio and Asian American studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
After the March 22 competition determines the U-M team, those members will compete in the College Unions Poetry Slam Invitational April 14 and 15. U-M will host that event, which will include teams from Yale, University of California at Berkley, Case Western, Louisiana State, Southern University, and a team yet to be determined from Eastern Michigan/Washtenaw Community College.
