ANN ARBOR—Jonis Agee, novelist and University of Michigan professor of English, will read from her latest novel Dec. 2 at 4 p.m. in Rackham Amphitheater.

Agee’s new novel, “South of Resurrection,” set in her native Nebraska, has been praised as a “lush, gritty tale of modern rural life.” She is the author of two previous novels, “Sweet Eyes” and “Strange Angels,” as well as a collection of short stories, “Bend this Heart,” all of which were named Notable Books of the Year by the New York Times Book Review.

She has received several grants and awards and the Philadelphia Inquirer defined her work as part of the “great American tradition of William Faulkner, Willa Cather and Sherwood Anderson.”

The visiting writers series runs throughout the academic year, drawing prominent writers and poets to the U-M campus. All readings are held in Rackham Amphitheater and are free. For more information, call the Hopwood Room at (734) 764-6296.
