PBS correspondent to speak at U-M

PBS correspondent to speak at U-M Frederick de Sam Lazaro, correspondent for the Public Broadcasting Service program "NewsHour with Jim Lehrer," since 1985, will give the 2002 Graham Hovey Lecture on "Facing AIDS in India, Thailand and Africa" at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 27 at Wallace House Gardens, 620 Oxford Road. The lecture is free and open to the public. De Sam Lazaro studied medical reporting as a 1988-89 Michigan Journalism Fellow. He was awarded an honorary doctorate by St. John’s University of Collegeville, Minn., in recognition of his reporting on AIDS from India and Africa. The seventeenth annual lecture honors retired Journalism Fellows director Hovey. A reception, hosted by U-M Provost Paul Courant and Earl Lewis, dean of the Rackham Graduate School, will follow the lecture.
