Physics Nobel laureate to speak
ANN ARBOR—Nicolaas Bloembergen, the Gerhard Gade University Professor Emeritus of Harvard University and winner of the 1981 Nobel Prize for physics, will present a public lecture on Sept. 23 at 3 p.m. at the University of Michigan. His speech, titled “A Historical Perspective on Laser Applications,” will be held in the Lydia Mendelssohn Theatre at 911 N. University.
In addition to his Nobel honor, Prof. Bloembergen is a recipient of the National Medal of Science, the Medal of Honor of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, the Frederick Ives Medal of the Optical Society of America, and the Loretnz Medal of the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences.
His seminar is sponsored by the U-M College of Engineering, its Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Center for Laser-Aided Intelligent Manufacturing.
