Provost Search Advisory Committee named

ANN ARBOR—University of Michigan President Lee C. Bollinger has appointed a 11-member faculty-student advisory committee for the search for the next U-M provost and executive vice president for academic affairs.

J. Bernard Machen, the current U-M provost and executive vice president for academic affairs and professor of dentistry, recently announced his intention to return to the faculty when his administrative term expires this summer.

President Bollinger will chair the search advisory committee. The search will be national in scope.

“I’m delighted that so many distinguished individuals have agreed to serve on the Search Advisory Committee,” Bollinger said, “and I hope we can conduct this search expeditiously and have someone recommended to the Regents early this fall.”

Those appointed to the advisory committee are William E. Bolcom, the Ross Lee Finney Distinguished University Professor of Music; Richard I. Ford, professor of anthropology and of botany, and curator, Museum of Anthropology;

Linda K. Gregerson, associate professor of English; Linda P.B. Katehi, professor of electrical engineering and computer science; professor of history and of Afroamerican and African studies; Michael A. Marletta, the John Gideon Searle Professor of Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacognosy, and professor of biological chemistry;

Earl Lewis, senior associate dean, Rackham School of Graduate Studies, and professor of history and of Afroamerican and African studies; Michael A. Marletta, the John Gideon Searle Professor of Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacognosy, and professor of biological chemistry;

Michael J. Nagrant, president, Michigan Student Assembly, and junior in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts; Rebecca J. Scott, the Frederick G.L. Huetwell Professor, the Arthur F. Thurnau Professor, and professor and chair of the Department of History;

Ctirad Uher, professor and chair of the Department of Physics; and Janet A. Weiss, the Mary C. Bromage Collegiate Professor of Business Administration, professor of organizational behavior and public policy, professor of public policy, and associate dean of the School of Business Administration.
