ANN ARBOR—University of Michigan Regents, at their July 17-18 meeting, approved these construction and renovation projects:

–“The original building systems are no longer capable of maintaining a controlled working environment in the office areas of the Medical Science Building I,” said U-M Interim Executive Vice President Chandler W. Matthews. “Past changes in the space, including the installation of open office systems, has rendered the systems obsolete. The project, estimated to cost $220,000, proposes to upgrade the infrastructure in the area by installing temperature zones for large open offices and separate zones for private offices.”

–“A number of buildings are supplied with domestic hot water supply, return and low pressure condensate from the Central Power Plant through the tunnel system. The pipes in the tunnel leading to Stockwell, Mosher Jordan, and Alice Lloyd halls are in poor condition. The existing black iron piping will be replaced with new copper piping for the domestic hot water supply lines, at an estimated cost of $620,000.”

–“As part of the continuing effort to provide the highest quality education facility, the College of Engineering proposes remodeling space in the Plasma Research Building to create a new Student Design Team Project Center which will include a metal shop, paint booth, assembly area, visitors area and support space.” The project is estimated to cost $2.3 million.

–“Last November, the Regents approved the Kellogg Building Expansion and Renovation project which included approval of the site and appointment of the architect. As the project has progressed through the schematic design phase, funding has been identified to address additional needs that exist in the School of Dentistry. “These needs include two ‘high-tech’ lecture rooms and the renovation and expansion of the Pediatric Dental Clinic. In addition, we have been analyzing the existing condition of the elements and systems of the existing Kellogg Building and are recommending that certain building renewal work be accomplished in concert with this project. Examples include widow replacement, sprinklers, mechanical systems replacement.” The revised budget for the project is $12,670,000.
