Regents approve updating of Hill Auditorium Renewal Project
ANN ARBOR—University of Michigan Regents, at their June 17 meeting, approved re-initiating the Hill Auditorium Renewal Project and appointed the firms of Albert Kahn Associates, Inc., and Quinn Evans/Architects for the project.
In seeking the Regents’ approval, U-M Executive Vice President Robert Kasdin noted that in 1989 the Regents approved “a feasibility study for an addition to and the renewal of Hill Auditorium, which was originally constructed in 1913. The Regents also approved the appointment of Albert Kahn Associates, Inc., the original architects of the building, along with Quinn Evans/Architects, a nationally recognized historic preservation consultant, to undertake the study. The results were presented to the Regents in 1990 with the hope that the proposed project would begin when funding became available.
“We have begun an update to the 1990 study to refine the definition of scope and the cost estimate for the project,” Kasdin continued. “We will identify the first phase of this project based on programmatic need, structural need prioritization, and the logical sequencing of work.
“At a future Regents’ meeting we will present the first phase of the project, the estimated cost, and identify the source of funds. The presentation will detail the proposed scope of work and seek approval for any changes that would affect the physical appearance of the building.”
