Researchers gather to discuss middle childhood

DATE: Thursday, June 12 through Saturday, June 14 EVENT: Building Pathways to Success: Research, Policy and Practice on Development in Middle Childhood. Top researchers from the University of Michigan, Harvard University and the University of Texas, along with more than 200 other registrants, will gather in Washington this week to discuss the latest research into some of the most difficult years of growing up: middle childhood. Some of the topics include “Research and practice in out-of-school time and child/youth development,” “Does youth participation in out-of-school time make a difference?” “Family and peer influences on achievement and relationships,” “Family dynamics, aggression and psychological functioning,” “Economic and policy influences on achievement and social behavior,” “Middle childhood experiences for children in immigrants and ethnic minority families” and “Family and school influences on school engagement and achievement.” TIME: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 12
