School of Dentistry enhancing Community Dental Center

ANN ARBOR—The University of Michigan School of Dentistry has added new oral health care professionals and is enhancing its Community Dental Center. The center, at 406 N. Ashley, provides comprehensive, quality oral health care services to Washtenaw County residents.

Dr. Dennis Turner, assistant dean at the School of Dentistry and director of patient services, said, “The addition of several new professionals and renovations to the clinic are a great ‘one-two combination’ that will allow us to provide even better care to our patients from Ann Arbor and surrounding areas.” The work, expected to be completed this fall, includes upgrading facilities, renovating lab areas, and purchasing new equipment.

One new staff member is Anne Bibik, who earned her doctor of dental surgery degree from the U-M School of Dentistry in 1989. Dr. Bibik worked for a large group practice in Flint and a private dental practice in Livonia before joining the Community Dental Center.

Another new staff member, Darlene Jones, has more than 25 years of clinical dental hygiene experience in all aspects of clinical practice. Barbara Yek, clinic office manager from 1986 to 1996, recently returned after pursuing interests in several areas. Dr. Doris Allen is the center’s director.

Open Monday through Friday, the Community Dental Center offers general and specialized oral health care treatment. Services offered include cleaning, crown and bridge work, periodontics and oral surgery. Hours, by appointment, are: Monday, 7:30 to 4:30; Tuesday, 8:00 to 6:30; Wednesday, 7:30 to 4:30; Thursday, 8:00 to 5:00; and Friday, 8:00 to 1:00.

Open since 1981, the center is a cooperative venture between the School of Dentistry and the City of Ann Arbor. The city owns the building, but leases it to provide oral health care services. “We’ve had great support and cooperation from the city and are looking forward to continuing our mutually beneficial arrangement well into the future,” Dr. Turner said.
