ANN ARBOR—There are new times/dates for William Dennisuk’s sculpture installation on the Huron River in the University of Michigan’s Nichols Arboretum, and Ann Arbor’s Gallup Park

Timing of the Arboretum Huron River installation depends on the height of river. At this point, installation has been changed from Wednesday, May 26 to the end of next week. A media advisory will be sent when the specific time and date are known. The installation will mark the first funded public sculpture to be installed in the winding waterway.

Meanwhile, installation of a companion sculpture will take place at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 26 in Gallup Park, 3000 Fuller Road along the Huron River.

Dennisuk’s three-phase Vessel Project began in late April with a sculpture installed in the Lurie reflecting pool outside U-M’s College of Engineering on north campus. Phase II is in Gallup Park. And, Phase III is the Huron River installation.

The three sculptures, which are privately funded, will be on display through October.

Dennisuk is the 2009-2010 Roman J. Witt Artist in Residence at the U-M School of Art & Design. The residency supports artists creating new work in collaboration with U-M students and faculty.

Funding for the Witt residency and sculptural installations is provided by Penny W. Stamps, who also supports U-M’s School of Art & Design’s popular Penny W. Stamps Lecture Series.

The Vessel Project received a permit from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment. Dennisuk has worked closely with OSEH, Ann Arbor Parks Advisory Commission, and U-M’s President’s Advisory Committee on Public Art and Exterior Elements Design Review Committee.
