Simple steps are effective in stopping spread of flu symptoms

ANN ARBOR—Discussion continues regarding developing and disseminating a vaccine for the H1N1 flu virus, commonly called swine flu, but there are many simple, non-pharmaceutical steps people can take to help stop the spread of flu symptoms.

Proper hand washing and proper use of hand sanitizers, covering coughs, staying home when sick are all great preventive measures, says JoLynn Montgomery, research investigator, University of Michigan School of Public Health Department of Epidemiology and director, Michigan Center for Public Health Preparedness.
