Spring commencement exercises on April 28-30
ANN ARBOR—David Halberstam, author and journalist, and Bernice Johnson Reagon, musician and historian, will give commencement addresses at the University of Michigan graduation ceremonies April 28-30. Halberstam
Honorary degrees will be awarded to Halberstam; Reagon; David Hermelin, former U.S. ambassador to Norway; Lawrence Kasdan, screenwriter and film director; and Martinus J.G. Veltman, theoretical physicist and Nobel laureate.

Halberstam will give the main speech at the Spring Commencement on April 29 in Michigan Stadium. At this event, beginning at 9:30 a.m., honorary degrees will be conferred and all undergraduate degree candidates will be recognized. Jamie Lynne Katz will make remarks on behalf of the graduating students.

Reagon will be the main speaker at the University Graduate Exercises in Hill Auditorium on April 28. Doctoral candidates and Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies master’s degree candidates will be honored at the ceremony, beginning at 3 p.m.

The U-M’s schools and colleges also will hold their own recognition ceremonies for their graduating students.
Altogether, some 6,000 students on the Ann Arbor campus expect their degrees this spring.
