More than a dozen University of Michigan students are in Brazil building a school so that ranching families may remain in their community. The Pantanal region is home to traditional ranchers who employ environmentally friendly practices.

The students are part of the Global Intercultural Experience for Undergraduates (GIEU). This program funds global educational projects that expand learning beyond traditional classroom boundaries, creating new opportunities for a 3- or 4-week project at various field sites.

The trip ends July 15.
