Students to inventory used medical equipment for developing countries
DATE: 9 a.m.-5 p.m., March 29, 2008.
EVENT: Approximately 140 University of Michigan students will catalog and inventory six floors worth of used medical equipment for the non-profit organization World Medical Relief, which provides second-hand equipment such as wheelchairs, hospital beds and neonatal warming units to developing countries.
The U-M students, who are studying biomedical engineering, computer science, nursing or medicine, will sort through a large warehouse and create a complete, searchable database of supplies and equipment. They hope to streamline operations at World Medical Relief. The non-profit has existed since 1953, but this will be the first complete inventory. Many of the students involved belong to the student volunteer group M-HEAL, which stands for Michigan Health Engineered for All Lives.
PLACE: World Medical Relief headquarters, 11745 Rosa Parks Blvd., Detroit, Mich.
CONTACTS: Kristen Wolff, co-founder and vice president of M-HEAL, (248) 943-6154, [email protected]
