Tauber Institute’s Spotlight! Competition at U-M Sept. 13
EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT
DATE: 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Sept. 13, 2013
EVENT: More than 80 University of Michigan students who collaborated on 35 projects at major companies this summer will present their work at the annual Spotlight! competition, which will award about $35,000 in scholarships.
Student teams from U-M’s Tauber Institute for Global Operations helped companies, such as 3M, GM Energy, Microsoft, Johnson & Johnson, Verizon and Chrysler, solve operations and manufacturing problems.
Projects included helping Exide Technologies achieve a 13-percent production increase at Exide’s Battery finishing line. The improvement will help Exide close the gap between its production capacity and the demand for lead-acid batteries generated by the rapidly growing telecom industry.
Last year, the 2012 Spotlight! Team projects saved participating companies a projected $375 million over three years.
