Tauber Institute’s Spotlight! competition at U-M Sept. 14

EVENT: The Tauber Institute for Global Operations presents Spotlight!, an event that features the work of 83 students who collaborated on 35 projects at major companies this summer. The student teams present their projects that solved operations and manufacturing problems at the companies in two sessions with results announced at 4 p.m.
The students worked on projects sponsored by companies such as Amway, BASF, ConAgra Foods, Chrysler and Delphi. And they compete for approximately $35,000 in scholarships. The projects included helping Midland-based Dow to assess and improve its industrial parks model and assisting Ford Final Assembly improve the quality of Lincoln vehicles based on analysis of quality data from inside and outside the company.
The 2011 Spotlight! projects saved participating companies a projected $600 million over three years.
The Tauber Institute is a joint venture between the University of Michigan’s Stephen M. Ross School of Business and the College of Engineering and many industry partners to facilitate cross-disciplinary education in global operations management.

7-8 a.m.: Registration
8 a.m.: Ross Business School Dean Alison Davis-Blake makes opening remarks
8:20 a.m. to noon: Student presentations
Noon–1 p.m.: Lunch
1-3 p.m.: Student presentations
3 p.m.: Judging begins
3:20 p.m.: Joel Tauber speaks at closing ceremony
4 p.m.: Winners announced
