ANN ARBOR—The University of Michigan has determined dates for distribution of tickets for spring commencement May 1 in Michigan Stadium.

President Barack Obama is the speaker for the 11 a.m. event.

“Because of the excitement generated by the president’s presence, we are anticipating a much higher than normal number of students who will participate in commencement this year,” said Michelle Pate, director of U-M’s University and Development Events. “This is a special day for our students, so priority for tickets will, of course, be given to them and their families.”

After students have received their allotment of tickets?eight for undergraduates and four for graduate students?organizers hope to have some available for the university community and general public.

Tickets will be distributed as follows:

Graduate ticket distribution
Alumni Center, Founders Room
(Alumni Association, 200 Fletcher St., corner of Fletcher and Washington Streets.)

• 10 a.m.-7 p.m. April 26
• 8 a.m.-7 p.m. April 27
• 8 a.m.-7 p.m. April 28

All graduating students participating in commencement must attend ticket distribution to pick up tickets. Graduates must present their student identification (MCard) in order to receive them.

It is expected that students only will take the tickets needed for family and friends, and that they will not sell them. These tickets are considered the property of U-M, and therefore, are not to be sold. University policy states: “Any attempt to sell, resell, donate or otherwise exchange commencement tickets for anything of value will result in your ticket(s) being revoked.” In addition, selling tickets is considered scalping, and is punishable by law.

After graduates have received their tickets, any that remain will be distributed to the university community (faculty, staff, non-graduating students and graduating students who would like to pick up extra tickets) and then the general public. Each person is eligible to receive up to two tickets on a first-come, first-serve basis. Members of the U-M community must bring their MCards to receive tickets.

All graduates and guests attending spring commencement, including children over age 2, must have a ticket to enter Michigan Stadium. There is no cost for tickets.

Those needing arrangements for wheelchair seating must call (734) 647-6037 by April 16. This seating is first-come first serve.
