U-M author examines ‘afterlife’ of Detroit
EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT
DATE: 5-6:30 p.m. Nov. 7, 2013
EVENT: University of Michigan alumnus Mark Binelli will discuss his new book, “Detroit City Is the Place to Be: The Afterlife of an American Metropolis.” It will be followed by an audience Q&A session.
Binelli does not shy away from exploring the violence, economic devastation, political corruption and physical ruin that have ravaged his hometown, but he also offers a glimpse of a future Detroit that is smaller, less segregated, greener, economically diverse and better functioning—what could be the boldest reimagining of a postindustrial city in the 21st century.
