EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT

DATE: 9-11 a.m. Thursday, June 14, 2012

EVENT: The University of Michigan will celebrate the opening of higher education’s first eco-friendly, data storage facility on campus, the Modular Data Center.

The new data center has the capacity to house up to one megawatt of high-performance computing equipment in a compact container the size of several shipping containers. With the flexibility to expand its capacity as needed, the MDC’s innovative design and use of outdoor air to cool equipment 75 percent of the year promotes sustainable computing.

The MDC was manufactured by Hewlett-Packard as part of their HP EcoPOD offering. HP EcoPOD deployments meet the same enterprise high-availability standards as a traditional data center, while being significantly more energy efficient.

PLACE: 2901 Baxter Road, Ann Arbor (located behind the U-M Transportation Research Institute)

MEDIA: Laura Patterson, associate vice president and chief information officer, and Andy Palms, executive director of communications systems and data centers, from Information Technology Services will be available at the event to answer questions 10:30-11 a.m. To arrange an interview, contact Dana Budzaj, U-M Office of Public Affairs, (734) 936-5190 or [email protected].
