U-M faculty salary increases average 4 percent
ANN ARBOR—Faculty salary increases at the University of Michigan’s Ann Arbor campus for 2007-2008 averaged 4 percent, according to figures from the University’s Salary Record, released today.
The median faculty salary increase (the 50th percentile) was 3 percent, the 25th percentile was 2 percent and the 75th percentile was 4.6 percent. Thus, half of all faculty received an increase between 2 and 4.6 percent. The median is the point where the increase percentage for exactly half of the group is greater than that and for half the group is less than that.
“Because of the highly competitive market for outstanding faculty and staff, the University must continue to make a substantial investment in the recruitment and retention of faculty and staff,” said Teresa Sullivan, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs.
Salary increases for staff averaged 3 percent. The median staff salary increase was 3 percent, the 25th percentile was 2.8 percent and the 75th percentile was 3.2 percent. The staff averages include salaries for employees in the U-M Health System and exclude bargained-for employees.
Merit salary increases for the University’s executive officers averaged 3 percent. Merit increases for academic deans averaged 3.9 percent.
Copies of the complete Salary Record are on reserve at the University Library and also may be purchased from the Human Resources Records and Information Services Department, 4073 Wolverine Tower, 3003 S.
