U-M finance conference will examine governance and compensation

EVENT: The 18th Mitsui Finance Symposium will feature research presentations on “Governance and Markets.”
A panel discussion on CEO compensation at noon-2 p.m. May 22 will highlight the conference. Amy Dittmar, associate professor of finance at the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business will moderate the discussion, which includes: Harvard law professor Lucian Bebchuk, who directs the school’s Program on Corporate Governance; Carol Bowie, head of RiskMetrics Group’s Governance Institute; Fritz Henderson, former president and CEO of General Motors Corp. who now consults for the company; and Steven Kaplan, professor at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
Nearly 50 scholars from around the world will take part in the symposium, discussing topics such as “Golden Parachutes and Corporate Acquisitions,” “Internal Capital Markets and Corporate Politics in a Banking Group,” “Monitoring Managers: Does It Matter?” “Does Financial Experience Help Banks During Credit Crises?” “Boardroom Brawls: Determinants and Consequences of Disputes Involving Directors,” and more.
