U-M panel: Translating slavery, emancipation

EVENT: “Translating Slavery, Translating Freedom”
As part of the 2012 LSA Translation Theme Semester, a panel of faculty will discuss issues related to translation in the contexts of slavery and emancipation. The event coincides with the Proclaiming Emancipation exhibit at the Hatcher Graduate Library.
The panel will feature Françoise Massardier-Kenney, co-author of “Translating Slavery” and professor of French at Kent State University; Martha Jones, associate professor of history and co-director of the Michigan Law Program in Race, Law and History; and Jean Hébrard, visiting professor and co-director of U-M’s Law in Slavery and Freedom Project. Christi Merrill, professor of comparative literarure and co-director of the 2012 LSA Translation Theme Semester, will moderate.
