U-M professor, Pew Center official to discuss report on state renewable energy policy
DATE: 2 p.m. June 14, 2006.
EVENT: The Pew Center on Global Climate Change will hold a teleconference in Washington D.C. to release its newest report: Race to the Top: The Expanding Role of U.S. State Renewable Portfolio Standards. The report examines challenges and opportunities inherent in policy design and implementation of a Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) at the state level. The report finds that adoption of an RPS at the state level has many benefits, including spurring economic development and creating a reliable and diversified supply of electricity, in addition to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and conventional pollutants.
Case studies from five states were studied” Texas, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Massachusetts and Nevada.
Reporters are invited to participate in a teleconference with Barry Rabe, a professor at the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy and School of Natural Resources and Environment at the University of Michigan, and Eileen Claussen, president of the Pew Center.
The Pew Center, established in May 1998, is an independent, non-profit, and non-partisan organization dedicated to providing credible information, straight answers, and innovative solutions in the effort to address global climate change.
