U-M residence hall rates to increase 4% next year

ANN ARBOR—The University of Michigan Board of Regents, at its Feb. 20-21 meeting, approved an average rate increase of 4 percent for residence halls and 3.9 percent for apartments on the Ann Arbor campus for next year.

The basic rate for a double room in the traditional residence hall, now $5,137.44 for two terms, will be $5,342. Other rates will range from $2,134 (now $2,051.28) for a room- only converted triple unit in a non-traditional hall to $6,348 Rates in the traditional halls include room and 13 meals per week.

New rates for student tenants in apartments, effective July 1, will range from $350 (now $337) a month for an unfurnished room in the Observatory Lodge to $844 (now $812) for a furnished three-bedroom townhouse unit. Faculty and staff tenants will pay about 10 percent more. All rates include utilities.

The proposed rates were recommended unanimously by the rate study committees, made up of students and staff members.
