U-M?s census video contest winners announced
ANN ARBOR—Winners of a video contest designed to boost student participation in the 2010 U.S. Census were announced today by the University of Michigan Institute for Social Research, which co-sponsored the contest with the U-M Office of the Provost.
?We were delighted with the quality of the entries,? said ISR researcher Lisa Neidert, who helped to coordinate the contest with a team of ISR colleagues. ?And we hope that the videos will be used widely to encourage college students to fill out the census forms sent to their campus-area residences.?

Popular vote winners:
? First place, ?The Census on Michigan Time,? submitted by the U-M College Democrats. Joe Sandman (Public Policy) producer, Sam Morykwas (College of Literature, Science, and the Arts) technical editor, and Nina Bhatacharya (Public Policy), Brendan Campbell, Charlotte Keeler, Josh VeVasseur, Samuel Marvin, and John Weiss (all LSA) actors, $1,000 prize.
? Second place, ?Census 2010,? produced by Shannon Shannon Kohlitz of the School of Art & Design, $500 prize.
? Third place, ?What?s Your Number,? produced by Edward Tang, College of Engineering, $250 prize.
? Fourth place, ?Imagine,? submitted by Nicholas Peters, College of Engineering, affiliated with the North American Student Service Team, $150 prize
? Fifth place, ?No Funds, No Fun,? submitted by Chandler Macocha, College of Engineering, $100 prize.
The Critic?s Choice Award went to U-M Dearborn student Tom Wille of the Campus Video Network at U-M Dearborn for ?The Informed Student,? and the Honorable Mention Award went to LSA student Robert Lott for ?If the Process Were Any Easier??
The awards ceremony will be held at noon March 30 in room 6050 at the U-M Institute for Social Research.
