EVENT: The Revitalization & Business Initiative, a student-led club at the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business, hosts Detroit on the Move, its third annual conference that connects students with Detroit leaders.

The conference will highlight Detroit businesses, leaders and initiatives that are helping to build a healthy city where wellness extends to every facet of life. Speakers from industries such as arts, technology, sports and real estate strike a conversation with Detroiters and U-M students about how Detroit is growing stronger.

Keynote speakers are Nancy Schlichting, CEO of Henry Ford Health System, and George Jackson Jr., president and CEO of Detroit Economic Growth Corp.

Detroit on the Move begins Thursday night with a reception and dinner at the Max M. Fisher Music Center in Detroit. The evening will feature Schlichting’s keynote address at 7 p.m.

Friday’s conference will include Jackson’s keynote speech at 10:15 a.m. at Blau Auditorium in Ann Arbor, along with panel discussions about the role of public space and real estate development, sports and entertainment, and technology and entrepreneurship, in building a healthy Detroit.

Panelists include Dan Pitera, co-lead for the Detroit Works long-term planning process, and Gwen Meyer of Compuware’s urban garden project, Lafayette Greens. Friday afternoon will close with IdeaLab, co-hosted by Model D Media, a fast-paced media-filled event featuring innovators from eight Detroit businesses.
