EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT

DATE: 4:30-8 p.m. Feb. 21, 2013

EVENT: The University of Michigan Nonprofit and Public Management Center will host the final round of the 2013 Social Impact Challenge, which allows students to solve real problems for an organization that focuses on social impact.

This year, nearly 20 teams of graduate students from across campus designed solutions to attract education leaders to hard-to-staff areas like Detroit. Teams considered a variety of business, policy and social factors, as well as crunched financial and internal data.

The Nonprofit and Public Management Center provides project and management training to the students, whose proposed solutions will be put into action. Finalists will present their recommendations to a panel of judges at the challenge, with the winning team receiving $2,500.

An education leaders forum and awards ceremony will immediately follow the challenge. More than a dozen community and educational agencies from Detroit will discuss how to attract education leaders and managers to the city.

The 2013 Challenge partner is Education Pioneers, a national nonprofit that attracts, prepares and connects top leaders and managers to accelerate excellence in education. CEO and founder Scott Morgan will serve as a judge and keynote speaker. Other local education leaders, including CEO Dan Varner of Excellent Schools Detroit, also will contribute to the judging and forum discussion.

The Nonprofit and Public Management Center’s mission is to equip future leaders in the private, public and nonprofit sectors with interdisciplinary insight that can help them operate more effectively when working for or collaborating with nonprofit and public institutions. It is supported by the Ross School of Business, Ford School of Public Policy and School of Social Work.

PLACE: Room R1210 (Social Impact Challenge final round) and 6th Floor Colloquium (Education Leaders Forum and Awards), Ross School of Business, 701 Tappan St., Ann Arbor
