U-M symposium examines the global impact of “new media”

DATE: 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Nov. 4, 2011.
EVENT: At the New Media/Social Change symposium, leading scholars from the U.S. and Europe will examine how “new media” (social, network and digital) have changed regions and reshaped the study of international questions. They will also discuss how changing technology will put news media at risk. The event is free and open to the public.
Speakers include:
- James Der Derian, professor, Brown University.
- Joe Straubhaar, Amon G. Carter Centennial Professor of Communication, University of Texas at Austin.
- Victoria Bernal, associate professor of Anthropology, University of California, Irvine.
- E. Gabriella Coleman, assistant professor, Department of Media, Culture, and Communication, New York University.
- Annabelle Sreberny, professor, Centre for Media and Film Studies, School of Oriental and African Studies, London.
