U-M will host India Business Conference

EVENT: India Business Conference: “One Billion and Counting” will focus on the emerging opportunities and existing challenges for corporations doing business in India.

In addition to panel discussions on the Indian consumer market, private equity investment and India’s infrastructure, the conference will feature keynote speakers Arun Shourie, former Indian Minister of Disinvestment, Communications and Information Technology (6 p.m. Oct. 9), and business guru C.K. Prahalad, the Paul and Ruth McCracken Distinguished University Professor at the Ross School (8:45 a.m. Oct. 10).

The panels will include leaders from companies such as Tata Motors, Bharati Airtel, Target, GVK Infrastructure, several private equity firms and more.

Shourie, a former economist at the World Bank and editor of the Indian Express, has received numerous national and international awards, including one of India’s highest civilian awards, the Padma Bhushan. He is widely regarded as the initiator of investigative journalism in India and has written 24 books on a variety of topics ranging from constitutional law, modern Indian history and religious fundamentalism to governance in India and national security.

Prahalad is considered one of the foremost business thinkers of our time. He has written several seminal books on strategy, including “The Multinational Mission,” “Competing for the Future,” “The Future of Competition,” “The Fortune at the Bottom of the Pyramid” and “The New Age of Innovation: Driving Co-created Value through Global Networks.” He is an active and prominent business consultant, with clients among some of the world’s leading companies, and sits on the boards of many corporations and other organizations.
