U-M Women’s Studies will hold feminist finance symposium

EVENT: The inaugural Feminist Finance Symposium will address feminists’ arguably ambivalent relationship with money; equip students with the personal finance tools and negotiation skills necessary for personal, financial and career success; and advance students’ understanding of the role of finance in positive social transformation.

Barbara Butterfield will present the keynote speech, “Women and Negotiation.” She holds a Ph.D. in education administration and is an alumna of the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business. She has more than 35 years of service in higher education, is author of three books and is past president of the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources.

Workshops will be held on Personal Finance and Credit, Investing 101 and Fundraising for Feminist Causes. A closing panel will address “Financing Feminist Futures: Philanthropy, Social Entrepreneurship and Venture Capitalism.” It features panelists Mary Lemmer of RPM Ventures, Laurie Burns McRobbie of Women’s Philanthropy at Indiana University, Michele Lewis Watts of the Wayne State University Sports Administration Program and Yodit Mesfin-Johnson of Enterprising Health.
