U-M’s Henry Greenspan wins Canadian Fulbright

ANN ARBOR—Henry Greenspan, a lecturer in the University of Michigan’s Residential College, has been awarded a Fulbright Visiting Research Chair Award to Concordia University in Montreal.

As the Fulbright Visiting Research Chair in North American Society and Culture at Concordia, Greenspan will spend four months beginning January 2012 conducting research for a project titled “Beyond Testimonies: Developing the Collaborative Model in Oral Histories with Genocide Survivors.”

“It is with a great deal of pleasure that I welcome Dr. Henry Greenspan to the distinguished group of Canada-U.S. Fulbright Scholars,” said Michael Hawes, executive director of Fulbright Canada. “Dr. Greenspan’s research is important and timely, and will have implications for the study and collection of genocide testimonials that will stretch across our shared border.”

Greenspan, who has a doctorate in sociology from Brandeis University and master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Harvard University, is a licensed clinical social worker, psychologist and playwright. He is author of several books, book chapters and journal articles on genocide survivors and their testimonies. He has presented at numerous conferences around the world as a contributor and keynote speaker on the topic of genocide survival and the importance of oral histories. His Holocaust-themed play “REMNANTS” has appeared on more than 200 stages across North America, Europe and Israel.
