Understanding long-term trauma of war on soldiers
DATE: 5:30 p.m. Nov. 6, 2008.
EVENT: “Vietnam and Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome,” a lecture by Dr. Israel Liberzon.
What lessons can be learned from the troops who returned from the Vietnam war that could help today’s U.S. soldiers coming back from deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan?
Liberzon explores the question, drawing on his years of biological research of stress and stress-related disorders, particularly in the regulation and dysregulation of stress response systems. Liberzon, a University of Michigan professor of psychiatry, psychology and neuroscience, is among the eminent researchers in the field of post-traumatic stress disorders.
The discussion is one of a series of events related to “The Whole World Was Watching: Revolution and Protest in 1968.” The exhibit features 1960s memorabilia and artifacts from U-M’s Labadie Collection of social protest materials. The event is free and open to the public with limited seating.
PLACE: Harlan Hatcher Graduate Library (North), Room 100, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
