Yahoo!-sponsored workshop includes 24-hour student hackfest
DATE: 6-9 p.m., March 17; 6-8:30 p.m. March 18-19 for the workshops; 4 p.m. March 20 to 6 p.m. March 21, 2009 for the 24-hour hackfest.
Hackfest demonstrations will be at 4 p.m. March 21. Winners will be announced at 6 p.m. March 21.
EVENT: Hack U, a programming workshop for students, sponsored by Yahoo! and culminating in a 24-hour “hackfest” student programming contest.
Yahoo! will demonstrate the latest open developer technologies, languages, Yahoo! tools, and more. During the 24-hour hackfest on March 21, students will work individually or in teams to employ those tools to create a new application. The contest winner will receive a trip to Sunnyvale, Calif. to represent U-M at Yahoo!’s International University Hack Showdown.
Yahoo! speakers include:
- Ramsus Lerdorf, creator of PHP, a computer language for dynamic web pages, at 6 p.m. March 17.
- Paul Tarjan, who will give an overview of the next generation of open search technologies Searchmonkey and Boss at 6 p.m. March 18.
- Tom Hughes-Croucher, an expert in the new Symphony PHP framework and open source technology, who will discuss open technology tools at 6 p.m. March 19.
