US, Michigan economic forecasts highlight U-M conference

EVENT: University of Michigan’s 66th annual Economic Outlook Conference
PLACE: Rackham Building Amphitheater, 915 E. Washington St., Ann Arbor
BACKGROUND: The University of Michigan’s Annual Economic Outlook Conference, in its 66th year, is the longest-running such event in the United States. It brings business and government economists and analysts from all over the country to Ann Arbor to learn and network. The event also attracts government, banking and economic development attendees.
U-M economist Daniil Manaenkov and colleagues will open the conference with “The U.S. Economic Outlook for 2019-2020” at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 15. William Dunkelberg, chief economist for the National Federation of Independent Business, speaks on “Election Implications for Small Business Spending and Hiring at 10:45 a.m.
The next day (Nov. 16) at 9:30 a.m., U-M economist Gabriel Ehrlich and colleagues will present “The 2019-2020 Outlook for the Michigan Economy.”
Other presentations include:
- “The Phillips Curve and Inflation Forecast” with Gloria Chen, principal analyst, Congressional Budget Office.
- “Trade Tensions 2018: U.S. Tariffs, Retaliation, and Implications” with Alan Deardorff, international economics professor, U-M.
- “The Outlook for the Automotive Industry in a Dynamic World” with Emily Kolinski Morris, chief economist, Ford Motor Co.
- “NAFTA, Tariffs, and the U.S. Automotive Industry” with Kristin Dziczek, vice president, Center for Automotive Research.
- “Has the Housing Market Peaked?” with David Berson, chief economist, Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co.
- “Moving toward a Smarter Workforce System: Recent Advances” with Randall Eberts, president, W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research.
